Reclaiming Education: A Biblical Mandate

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?” – Matthew 5:13

For 150 years American schools used The New England Primer to teach both language and Christian doctrine. Introduced in Boston, this textbook shaped generations, grounding students in Scripture, moral character, and responsible Christian citizenship. Literacy was not just for worldly success; it was essential for understanding the Bible and applying Biblical principles to daily life. The Primer included the Lord’s Prayer, the Apostles’ Creed, and hymns that reinforced faith, making Biblical truth the foundation of American education.

Today that foundation is crumbling. Schools teach students that their rights come from the government, not from God, shifting their worldview with lasting consequences. Christians must take action to restore truth in education.

Restoring Truth in Education

  • Recognize the Crisis. A Gallup poll found that only 31% of adults with children under the age of 18 attend religious services weekly. Without hearing Truth, this next generation will increasingly disconnect from the foundational Christian values that have long guided our nation.
  • Engage Churches and Pastors. Churches and pastors must take an active role engaging with schools, seeking ways to reach and train youth, grounding them in a Biblical worldview with a God-centered foundation. No longer can Christians stand on the sidelines while secular ideologies take root in the next generation.
  • Influence Culture through Education and Policy.  Christian leaders should advocate for policies that uphold Biblical values, parental rights, and choice of schools. The recent dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education opens the door for faith-based education reform at the local level.

The call to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19) does not stop at the pulpit or the church doors. It extends into classrooms, school boards, and education policy discussions. If Christians do not actively shape the education system, secular forces will continue to push God out of the Education sphere. We must rise to the challenge and reclaim education for the next generation.
